ANNPE & FCE - NEW 2026 Version
Designed for rehabilitation professionals, this workbook combines current evidence, clinical reasoning, and structured treatment planning to help you confidently manage dogs recovering from acute non-compressive nucleus pulposus extrusion (ANNPE) and fibrocartilaginous embolic myelopathy (FCE) from initial rehabilitation evaluation through long-term functional recovery.
Although ANNPE and FCE have different mechanisms of spinal cord injury, they are addressed together because both produce acute, non-compressive spinal cord injuries with similar neurologic and functional consequences. Once medically stable, rehabilitation is driven primarily by the patient’s neurologic impairments, functional presentation, and response to treatment rather than the diagnostic label alone.
Includes:
Dos, Don’ts, and Red Flags for clinical decision-making
Clinical considerations for ANNPE and FCE rehabilitation
Goal-oriented treatment plans for acute, subacute, and chronic recovery
Criterion-based progression based on neurologic and functional performance
Strategies for postural control, motor recruitment, weight bearing, and functional transitions
Task-specific locomotor and gait rehabilitation guidance
Balance, coordination, strength, and endurance considerations
Functional electrical stimulation clinical considerations
Underwater treadmill guidelines for neurologic locomotor training
Management of sensory impairment, paw protection, fatigue, and secondary complications
Long-term mobility and assistive-device considerations for patients with residual neurologic deficits
Therapeutic exercise cross-references to GoGoCharlie® home program templates
Dedicated Notes sections for individualized treatment planning and patient progress
Appendices with Neurodevelopmental Sequencing and UWT clinical-use guidelines
Treating a patient whose neurologic function is changing quickly? This protocol uses criterion-based progression so treatment can be adapted to voluntary motor control, postural control, movement quality, assistance requirements, fatigue, and functional recovery rather than a predetermined timeline.
Standard Protocol - $19
A focused, evidence-informed rehabilitation protocol for a specific diagnosis. Includes clinical considerations and treatment guidance for each phase of recovery, including goals, precautions, treatment interventions, progression criteria, and return-to-function planning.
